The Victorian Christmas

Prayers, homily, bible reading… the usual routine of the Victorian school, 1897, is eventually dispensed with in favour of preparations for Christmas! This is a really festive day during which the children learn about the origin of many of our Customs and Celebrations including The Christmas Tree and Father Christmas (without spoiling the magic), and they participate in craft activities appropriate to the season and the nineteenth century.

Activities include:

The Victorian Schoolroom at Christmas role-play, Making Crackers, Making Garlands, Making Victorian tree decorations and Victorian-style cards. The day is enriched with artefacts and concludes with parlour games or carol singing.

This day supports Unit 11 of QCA History Schemes of Work - Key stage 2
